Management shakeup at OPAP
01-08-2010
The Greek online
gambling monopoly OPAP saw some major mutations as preceding managers left the gambling operator, through which the recently elected socialist government became in charge regarding the appointment of the preferred management staff. The new OPAP Chief Executive Officer is Ioannis Spanoudakis.
Management shakeup
OPAP’s Chief Executive Officer is known for its role as managing director of the Athens Olympics Organizing Committee in 2004, while Spanoudakis also worked for Dow Chemicals. OPAP’s position of Chairman of the Board will be fulfilled by Charis Stamatopoulos, who previously was Athens’ Airport chairman.
The Greek-based gambling operator has a monopoly on lotteries and sports betting. Internet gambling is currently prohibited in Greece. However the European Commission is investigating Greek laws to determine if they hinder competition from other European Union nations in services provided by OPAP.
Greek gambling operator
OPAP operates internet lotteries and
betting all over the world. The Greek gaming firm presently closed a deal to manage the Arkansas Lottery in the North American state. Speculations that OPAP prepares to enter the US gambling market emerged after the company acquired an American gaming company which runs activities abroad.
